History of Big T Ranch
I started raising goats in 1999 with Alpine Dairy Goats under the Fanta-Sea's herd name. I did really well with them, resulting in several champions. In 2001, I decided to add some Boer Goats to the herd to raise percentage show wethers for F.F.A. projects; so I purchased two percentage does and my first fullblood herd sire. But, since the Boers were not my main focus, they didn't get shown or bred as well as they should have. In 2002, I made the decision to breed the Boers exclusively and sold all of my Alpines. But that same winter I lost my fullblood herd sire, and almost got out of the goats completely.
In the summer of 2003 I met Tom while working at (then) Lost Valley Scout Reservation. Soon we were engaged and I told him that it was important to me that we get back into goats, and he agreed since he too had fallen in love with the Boer Goats. Then we needed a herd name to call our own. We didn't want to use the Fanta-Sea's name for the Boers, because it was a name that I had done well with the Dairy Goats and wanted this name to only be associated with the Boer Goats. After going over literally hundreds of names and ideas, we settled on the "Big T" herd name.
We would like to thank the California Boer breeders who made it possible for us to purchase outstanding foundation does and our herd sires, that will make a strong impact on our breeding program today and in the years to come. We are always looking for quality goats that carry outstanding bloodlines so that we may better our breeding program. That way we may reach our goal in breeding animals that consistently produce outstanding offspring, that excel both as breeding animals, and show animals as well.
We are currently located in Pinon Hills, California which is 20 miles east of Victorville, right off of US Highway 138. The desert weather and landscape make it a great place to raise goats.
